Introduction: Evaluating the usefulness of Modified Triple Test Score (MTTS) in palpable breast masses in women under age 40.
Materials and Methods: Medical records of 67 cases with the data of physical examination, ultrasonography and fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) were evaluated and MTTS was calculated and correlated with post operation pathology result and fallow up. Results: Among 67 masses, 6 scored 3 points, 30 scored 4 points; 11 scored 5 points; 1 was malignant. 20 scored >or=6 points: all were malignant. Of the 11 masses with score of 5, which considered as suspicious 10 were benign masses, 1 was malignant mass. The MTTS has 100% diagnostic accuracy when other than 5 points. Masses scoring or=6 points may proceed to definitive therapy. Conclusions: The MTTS reliably guides evaluation and treatment of breastpalpable breast masses in women under age 40. MTTS 3 or 4 are always benign and with scores greater than or equal to 6 are malignant and should be treated accordingly. This approach avoids open biopsy in the majority of cases, while capturing all malignancies. The MTTS provides equivalent diagnostic effectiveness but substantially lower cost than traditional management
